Visual Inspection
Testing
A visual inspection of the appliance shall be carried out prior to any testing. The inspection will check for:
Damaged flexes (free from cuts, fraying or damage).
Damaged plugs and equipment (burn marks, discolouration, cracks in casing, pins bent).
Correctly wired plugs (cable anchorage secure).
Subject to satisfactory inspection, the following sequence of tests will then be carried out:
Correctly rated fuse
Earth continuity test – Class 1 appliances only
Insulation resistance test
Functional test
Polarity test (leads only)
Touch current leakage test
Appliance testing results are then stored onto our testing equipment and the electrical item marked accordingly with a pass or fail label. We normally provide your results electronically – on a Compact Disk and/or by email in Adobe Acrobat Format. We can provide paper records in the form of a test register if requested.
All Portable Appliance testing is carried out according to
the IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) Code of Practice.
